Did you know that having your pet groomed regularly leads to a
happier and healthier life for your pet?
Regular grooming not only makes your pet feel clean and happy,
but grooming also adds a new dimension of care that helps pet owners
to maintain healthier pets. Proper hygiene and grooming have a number
of benefits and are important aspects of your pet’s overall
health.
Grooming Promotes Trust: A
pet that is groomed regularly is more likely to be comfortable
around veterinary professionals, and the veterinary environment.
Your pet will become more familiar with his veterinary office
surroundings, and feel more comfortable being handled by a veterinarian,
professional groomer, and all who enjoy your pet’s company.
Grooming produces lifelong trust between you and your pet and
will allow you and others not only to perform routine grooming
practices, but other procedures as well.
Grooming Promotes Better Skin and
Hair Coat: Brushing is the foundation of good grooming.
Brushing helps to remove and loosen dirt and residue, dead hair,
dead skin cells and prevent tangles in long-haired pets. Regular
combing and brushing stimulates the skin to allow natural oils
to circulate to the hair coat in dogs and cats. Spending a few
minutes each day brushing or combing your pet’s hair coat
will ensure a beautiful hair coat. In cats, it also allows for
limited shedding and hairballs. Brushing a cat’s coat daily
will limit the amount of hair he/she swallows while self-grooming.
This is especially important because hairballs can cause intestinal
tract problems in cats.
The amount and frequency of grooming your pet varies with hair
coat type and lifestyle. Consult your veterinarian or professional
groomer for you pets particular grooming needs.
Grooming is a great way to keep tabs
on what is going on with your pet’s physical condition.
While providing grooming services, a professional groomer can
become an important part of your pet’s general healthcare.
By establishing a grooming routine early in life, you will learn
what is normal for your pet. Anything unusual will stand out,
often allowing you to catch problems early on such as ear infections,
skin infections, parasite infestations and tumors before they
become serious. Moisture build up that often comes with tangled
fur can lead to painful and uncomfortable rashes or “hotspots”
and skin infections.
While providing professional grooming services, a professional
groomer observes your pet from nose to tail and notes any abnormalities
that may need veterinary attention. Even the best owners sometimes
miss the signs of health problems and most do not take their pets
to the veterinarian until the problem has progressed.
Please do not hesitate
to contact us if you have a question about our professional grooming
services at Lakes Region Veterinary Hospital.
